Children's Services:
Holloway House began as a 9 bed, parent model, fully staffed group home offering short and long-term care to children from infants to age 18. This site has been open since 1984.
Adult Services:
Since 1991, we have also served adults through service contracts with the province of Ontario. This has allowed for continuance of care for individuals from infancy through adulthood.
Warmth, acceptance, stimulation and realistic goal setting are incorporated into daily routines of living and programming to help each individual attain his/her highest potential. We believe in every person's right to respect, privacy, education, health care & acceptance of their individuality. We are committed to providing compassionate, quality service to everyone in our care.
Located in a rural setting on 4 acres of land, Holloway House is fully wheel chair accessible.
Specialized equipment exists in the home to aid in caring for children with a variety of special needs. Playground equipment exists on the property.
ADMISSION: We accept males and females with special care needs at any age.
PROGRAMS PROVIDED:
High Needs Program: Providing care for children who are non ambulatory, and who have severe multiple developmental, physical and medical concerns. This program specializes in total care.
APPROPRIATE REFERRAL for High Needs Program: Males and females of any age with severe developmental and/or physical disabilities who require close attention and total care (i.e. having severe medical conditions, terminally progressive disorders and severe developmental concerns who require close monitoring, medical supervision, sensitivity and stimulation.
Life Skills Program: providing for developmental, behavioural and/or physical concerns where structure and stability are required. Communication, Life-Skills/Self-Help coaching and Social-Skills training are incorporated into daily living.
APPROPRIATE REFERRAL for Life Skills Program: Males and females with moderate to severe developmental disabilities, moderate behavioural disorders and/or mild to severe physical disabilities who require coaching, stimulation, monitoring and closeness.
TARGET POPULATION:
Holloway House serves individuals with moderate to severe developmental, behavioural and physical disabilities.
We have experience caring for many people with severe medical concerns and are experienced in providing both long-term and palliative care including those with either no cognitive impairment, but physical and medical challenges; and to those with severe developmental disabilities and medical needs.
We have experience in providing safety and structure for those presenting with behavioural concerns also.
We are experienced in caring for people having oxygen requirements, apnea, gastrostomy feeding tubes, nasogastric feeding tubes, seizure disorders, blindness, deafness and a variety of syndromes. Special menus are planned for those requiring specialty diets.
STAFFING AND PROGRAMMING:
Holloway House maintains Staffing 24 hours per day. Staffing is by both live in owner/operators who are house parents, and staff with various qualifying diplomas and experience in residential and supportive care.
Awake staff provide care throughout the night. Staffing positions include full and part-time Registered Nurses, Child and Youth workers, Developmental Services Workers (with programming, behavioural and pharmacological training) and Early Childhood Educators. Staff are trained in Crisis Prevention and intervention, First Aid and C.P.R. Staff members are also advised through consultants & clinicians to work through play and formal programming to achieve improvements in behaviour, life skills, communication, gross and fine motor skills and medical care and stability. Physiotherapy programming is done daily for those in need. Occupational Therapy and physiotherapy care strategies are developed in consultation with medical practitioners and therapists through hospitals and other health programs.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT:
We encourage families to benefit through pre-placement visits, and to participate in the care and planning for their child as much as possible. We are more than happy to arrange for transportation to and from their family home for visits. Telephone calls are always welcome.
COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL NEEDS:
Community outings occur often, taking into account the special interests of the person. Realizing that religion is an important factor in the lives of many of the individuals and families, the opportunity for participation in community religious services can be accommodated. Some presently living at Holloway House have benefited from participation at a local church that offers a modified service for those with developmental disabilities.

Education:
Local Board of Education offers programs within a variety of settings. There is a local school that provides education to only the special education population through classes integrated within the local public and secondary schools.
Adult Day Programming:
Holloway House has been operating a day program for our adults since 1999. This program is tailored to the needs and interests of those participating and includes activities in the community on a frequent basis.
