Ontario Family Group Homes Inc. has been in operation since 1988 and offers a variety of services to youth and families throughout Ontario. OFGH has a total of 4 Long Term Residential Treatment Homes for youth, 1 Life Skills Program and 1 Parent Model Group Care Program. In addition we operate 5 programs contracted with specific CAS Agencies, as well as Foster Care Services. OFGH is a leader in the Care and Treatment Services for youths and their families. We are innovative in our approach to caring for youths and their families. OFGH is committed to providing the highest level of care in our community based programs. Our Program philosophy enables us to successfully address the needs of youths to support them in their treatment goals and personal success. OFGH provides group care programs that are highly structured that encompass work programs, academic programs, life skills development, literacy skills, problem solving techniques, physical fitness, nutrition, personal hygiene, conflict resolution, behavior management, and independent living skills. We believe that treatment is the most effective when it is tailored to the needs of the family unit and its individual members. Respect for cultural diversity is foremost in our treatment process. We believe that the parents should, whenever possible and appropriate, remain in the parenting roles as educators, nurturers and primary care providers. We will work collectively with family members to support them in a healthy role within their family structure. We believe in providing a range of treatment service, which address the inter-relationships between the child, family, school, peers and the community. We believe that treatment is far more successful and effective when it addresses the child’s priorities, when it is goal-oriented and when it involves family as a partner in the planning, the decision-making, and when it empowers the youth/child to succeed in his/her goals. OFGH staff is committed to the safety, well-being and individual growth of the youths who are placed in the programs. Individual treatment plans are implemented for each child in order to address his/her own needs to ensure all staff working with the child is focused on the child’s successful goal attainment. The staff is all trained in working with and dealing with a variety of youth and their behaviors, additionally they are also trained in UMAB (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behavior) and are skilled in working with youth with various issues, such as ADHD, Depression, Bi-Polar Personality, Dual Diagnosis, Behavior issues/ideations and self-harm behaviors etc. OFGH also provides Foster Care programs for at risk children who may not fit the criteria of a group care facility. These programs promote care, commitment and permanency within a family setting. Our Foster Care Parents have been carefully selected and screened to ensure the well being and care of the children placed in the homes. Each program embraces families and children from diverse backgrounds. Our foster parents represent diversity in age, religion, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity and race, and are respectful of these diversities by being flexible and able to value differences. OFGH Foster Care programs serve children from ages 3 to 18 years of age who are in need of a caring and supportive living environment to help them succeed in their goals. All homes are located within a community and are licensed as a Foster Home. Each home will have qualified house parents where at least one parent has experience in child care and treatment. A qualified Child & Youth Worker will be part of the team to offer support to the Foster Parents and the OFGH Senior Management team will also offer 24 hour support to the families who foster, in the event of an emergency. All of the Long-Term Treatment Homes as well as our Foster Homes have access to a therapist that works with the youth and their families (if applicable). The Therapist can also continue to work with the youth/family for a period to time once the youth has been discharged to assist with the reintegration process for youth whether he/she is returning home or moving on to another placement or stage is his/her life.
